Prime Minister Lawrence Wong met his counterpart from Thailand, Mr Anutin Charnvirakul, on the sidelines of the 47th Asean Summit in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 27.

In a post on his social media platforms, PM Wong said that he conveyed to Mr Anutin his deepest condolences on the recent death of Thailand’s Queen Mother Sirikit.

Singapore and Thailand share a warm, longstanding friendship, said PM Wong, noting how the two countries enjoy more than 60 years of close cooperation built on mutual trust and respect.

“Our partnership is mature and multi-faceted, spanning many areas including digital finance and carbon credits collaboration,” he added.

PM Wong said that he and Mr Anutin agreed that there is potential for both countries to do more together, and to continue being trailblazing partners in new and emerging sectors.

PM Wong also said that he looked forward to continuing their discussions when Mr Anutin makes his introductory visit to Singapore.

The Thai leader was elected prime minister on Sept 5, after a court permanently disqualified his predecessor, Ms Paetongtarn Shinawatra, over ethical misconduct in her handling of a border clash with Cambodia.
