NLCS (Singapore) welcomes new Director Anthony Coles
North London Collegiate School (Singapore) has welcomed Anthony Coles as its new Director, marking the beginning of a new chapter for a school that brings together a long-standing British educational heritage with an international outlook.
Founded in London in 1850, North London Collegiate School has a distinguished history of academic education. Its Singapore school opened in 2020 and is now part of a growing family of schools spanning the UK, Singapore, Jeju, Dubai and Kobe.
Anthony joins NLCS (Singapore) with more than three decades of experience in educational leadership across Australia, Europe and Asia. His appointment comes at an important stage in the School’s development as it continues to build on its foundations in Singapore while looking ahead to the future.
His educational philosophy aligns closely with two important aspects of the NLCS approach: Joyful Scholarship and Positive Education.
Joyful Scholarship reflects the School’s belief that learning should be intellectually exciting. It encourages students to be curious, ask thoughtful questions and take pleasure in thinking deeply and discovering new ideas. Academic achievement remains an important foundation, but students are also encouraged to develop their interests and ambitions across music, sport, creative arts, leadership, innovation and beyond.
Alongside this, Positive Education considers what enables young people not only to achieve, but to flourish. Individual pastoral care, strong relationships and a sense of purpose sit alongside academic ambition, with every student known and valued as an individual.
For a school with roots in the UK and a distinctly international community, this balance remains central to its identity: drawing on a long educational tradition while preparing young people for an increasingly global world.
