How MINDEF/SAF are supporting the national COVID-19 efforts

MINDEF/SAF is doing their part as a nation-wide effort to flatten the curve of COVID-19 infections. On top of implementing measures to maintain operational readiness amidst the COVID-19 outbreak, they have also been actively supporting the national COVID-19 efforts:

  • Operating temperature screening stations at the airport
  • Deploying more than 1,300 personnel supporting MOH and ICA in health monitoring and contact tracing
  • Activating 1,500 SAF personnel to pack 5.2 million masks for distribution to Singapore households (30 & 31 Jan)
  • Collecting and delivering 5,000,000 reusable masks to more than 89 community centres and clubs (3 to 5 Apr)
  • Providing basic health screening and consultation services to foreign workers at dormitories gazetted as isolated areas (Westlite Toh Guan Dormitory and S11 Dormitory @ Punggol)
  • Housing 1,300 foreign workers temporarily at Parts of Bedok Camp II and Jurong Camp II. (From 10 Apr)
  • Leading more than half of the Forward Assurance and Support Teams (FAST) deployed at the 43 purpose-built dormitories to assist foreign workers affected by the outbreak.

Community Care Facility @ Changi Exhibition Centre

The Changi Exhibition Centre (CEC) has been converted as a community care facility for patients recovering from COVID-19. The facility is able to cater to about 2,800 patients. MINDEF-affiliated organisations – the National Service Resort & Country Club, SAFRA, SAF Yacht Club, Sembawang Country Club, Singapore Discovery Centre, Singapore Youth Flying Club, So Drama! Entertainment, Temasek Club and THE CHEVRONS have joined hands with Experia Events, which provided the site, for the conversion. Each organisation contributed to a specific area of work with partners including Surbana Jurong Private Limited and the Dormitory Association of Singapore. Operations at the CEC are managed by Mandarin Oriental, Singapore, while healthcare services are provided by Raffles Medical Group.
