The Built Environment Committee is a diverse group of sector professionals whose purpose is threefold:
- To provide professional and social interaction opportunities for the benefit of the committee, BritCham members and British businesses
- To use our collective experience and industry insight to create forums for knowledge sharing on current and forward-looking built environment topics
- Act as a conduit for business collaboration between Singapore and the UK
Despite being restricted to online events, 2021 was content rich for the committee with a wide range of insight covering the Singapore real estate landscape, pandemic related strategies for landlord and tenants, and how sustainability is being embraced in Singapore and beyond.
We started the year with our annual real estate market outlook held in conjunction with CoreNet. This flagship event explored industry trends in the region, why Asia will be at the heart of future innovation and what the key themes will be for owners and occupiers moving forward.
In addition to exploring the landscape in Singapore and wider region, we also hosted a webinar aimed at sharing strategies for those wishing to invest in UK residential property during and beyond covid-19.
Given so much of our lives continued to be affected by the global pandemic, we sought to cut through the noise and provide forward looking, practical insights for landlords and tenants looking to understand what the future of work looked like and how they could keep those at work safe.
Our Hybrid Future of Work event considered the current operating models for businesses navigating rapidly shifting government policy, changing dynamics of employee engagement and team culture, talent management and optimising hybrid work solutions. This was coupled with a podcast where infection risk in buildings was reviewed. We discussed policies and procedures for keeping employees safe and healthy as well as operational and property upgrades that were possible to ensure infection risk was minimised.
As always, sustainability was at the forefront of our thinking and as such, we delivered three webinars exploring different facets of sustainability in the context of our cities; green data centres, inclusive cities, and green finance. Each event outlined the sustainability challenges faced today and proffered forward looking approaches to help us live in more resilient, inclusive, and environmentally friendly cities.
Our 2022 calendar is ambitious brings together in-person, hybrid, and virtual content. Our core themes for the year are Future of Work, Future of Cities, and Green Finance. Given the wealth of knowledge that exists within the wider committees and our member organisations, 2022 will be underpinned with collaboration in mind to ensure what we deliver brings cutting edge thinking and insight to our members.
