#FridayFive from the Executive Director: 8 May 2026

#FridayFive this week captures a hilariously-random across-office discussion about the marvels of a world-class UK motorway service station on the M6…! This is what we’ve been up to this week:

1.  Trade: Some great meetings on our Life Sciences and HealthTech Accelerator, which huge thanks to Matthew Rawlings for your support. We also welcomed JETRO - Japan External Trade Organization team with thanks to Kurokawa Junji, Kazunori Yamada and Carmen Peck for meeting with Louise as we talked about Singapore as a hub for business across the APAC region.

2.  Enhancing links to the UK: Delighted to see Kenny Chen and welcome Chris Hamilton for his visit to singapore from Odgers. Thinking about the Healthcare and Life Sciences sector in the UK and the opportunities for businesses in the UK. An excellent session, and thank you Chris for your amazing brain - have a good rest of your trip.

3.  Bridging the UK/Singapore: We’ve had some good internal planning meetings as we look at the rest of the year, but also thank you to Martin Rimmer for introducing us to Melissa Lim as we build a programme to support Singapore companies looking to expand into the UK. Watch this space…!

4.  A welcome to new members: Superb to host a New Member Briefing this week with Andras Szirko, Andrew MacGeoch, Brian Frissyn, Cyrus Brooks, James Rigg, Jay Gadar, Luke Oon, Meng Wai Mun and Sonya Lau covering Legal, Education, RegTech, Banking and Advisory with Natassia. Great discussion on AI too! And, whilst on the welcome theme, welcome to Oberon Moran who joined the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore (BritCham) team this week.

5.  Yes to networking: Lucy and I met with Yeen Chong from Milken Institute as we talked about the Singapore Asia Summit and wider collaboration. Also great to see Alex Mitchell, Elise Loncol, Chris Bosher, Andrew Clark, Randy Del Valle and Shane Wan this week too. Shout out to Faiz Sulaiman for his patience this week during some filming too!

Having traversed the M6 more times than I care to imagine, I never made it further than junction 31, so a shout out to TEBAY MOTORWAY SERVICES LIMITED for generating a wholesome conversation about quality #UK produce whilst on the go, in #Singapore no less (Cumbria Chamber of Commerce)!! Have a great weekend where I’ll be monitoring the local elections results in the UK, and hope to see you at our AGM next week.
