#FridayFive from the Executive Director: 17 July 2026

It has been another simmeringly good week to report in my #FridayFive at the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore (BritCham) . Here’s what has been happening:

1.  Focus on Collaboration: The business eco-system in #Singapore is very tight, and we have great relationships across the network. Wonderful to welcome Ping Soon Kok, William Lim and Jack Ang from the Singapore Business Federation with Haslam Preeston and Lucy Haydon as we discussed opportunities to support businesses here locally. The Chamber is part of the TAC Alliance and supports a number of SBF initiatives and we look forward to further collaboration, particularly with Singapore Chairing ASEAN in 2027. 

2.  Over in the UK…: Thank you to Daniel Sawko and Ken Poole MBE for a fantastic call on joining up opportunities in Singapore and #Cardiff. We also caught up with Raj Mendhir as we continue to enhance the HCLS Trade Accelerator programme.

3.  Network of Opportunity: Lovely to meet Yiyi Jing and Cathy Cao from RX Global as we talked about the trade opportunities for #UK firms around the region. Good to talk about #China, Singapore and the #APAC region more broadly. Exhibitions are getting a lot more data and success/export-metric driven. 

4.  Glasgow: Louise Beazor and the team at the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce hosted an online market briefing ahead of a trade mission in October. Its another great example of the British Chambers of Commerce in the UK working with the International British Chamber network to support brilliant British business and innovation to explore Singapore and the Southeast Asian market. Also, what a pleasure to catch up with Paul Harvey from University of Glasgow which in Singapore - awesome conversation which was brain-widening on AI and the future world!

5.  Supporting #England: Been a hard week, but a special shout out to Tee Bale and The British Club Singapore who have hosted the Chamber and members to watch the England games. Wonderful hospitality and company, and a sense of togetherness, even if the result on Thursday morning wasn’t what we wanted. Thank you Tee, and to your amazing team at the Club who were so welcoming and happy to have us!!

Who said July was quiet over the summer period…! And, a shout-out to former colleague, fellow education enhancer and friend, Andrew Wong from the MLA College for the fantastic hotpot lunch at Mr Fongs, hence todays theme for the #FridayFive, and to Kevin B. for his hospitality, company and entertainment this week too.
