#FridayFive from the Executive Director: 15 August 2025

My #FridayFive covering the Mainoo events across the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore (BritCham) this week…

1. First fixture of the week: Thank you to Mark Domitrak from CT Group the for epic weekend celebration of the 60th anniversary of Singapore. A wonderful evening, wonderful network, and what a fantastic view. As Singapore turned 60, we continue to do our best to support British businesses here.

2. On the ball: a most enjoyable week of meeting lots of members and connections, all hugely knowledgeable, and lots of sharing. Particular thanks to Chris Humphrey from the EU-ASEAN Business Council for his counsel, to Alasdair Abercrombie-Barnett, the team at the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce, the team from Harry's Singapore, Tom Mason, Sean Godfrey, Aaron Herps, PhD, Vikkrama Kumaravale and Chao Yong Sai.

3. One Goal: Thank you to Nikesh Mehta and Steve Firstbrook for hosting Haslam Preeston and me for our regular catch up between the Chamber and UK in Singapore. We collectively do our absolute best for the community here, and the connectivity between the UK Gov’t and business is as strong as ever.

4. Transfer window of knowledge: I was so delighted to welcome back to the Chamber a number of former members. We talked about how the Chamber has changed, future engagement, the bilateral relationship, opportunities for growth and shared some of the exciting opportunities such as the UK’s industrial and trade strategies, the green economy framework and the digital economy agreement.

5. Your game plan for Asia: The Chambers in Britain in South East Asia | BiSEA met online this week as we prepare our plans to meet in Malaysia in October for our regional conference. I was also super impressed with Stuart Dunn from the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai (BritCham Shanghai) who has been growing his Chamber, and has some exciting plans going forwards. Great to connect with you all.

As we tackle the last few hours of the week, enjoy the start of the Premier League this weekend, and lastly, a belated happy birthday to BritCham Great British Ball singing legend, Kalliope Coplin.
