#FridayFive from the Executive Director: 12 September 2025
Brilliant week … here’s my hashtag#FridayFive across the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore (BritCham) ...
1. Giant Sustainability Dialogue: Too many people to thank on this one, but we successfully delivered our 2nd Annual Sustainability Dialogue. Amazing panels, amazing network, met some new colleagues, and met some colleagues I’ve not seen for over 4 or more years (Simon Kuik and Arun Dev). Excellent to have the opportunity to talk to Adrienne Scott Cox about the UK’s climate ambition, and to Ambassador Ravi Menon about FAST-P, UK insurance and investment in climate. Nature always wins. Great press coverage this week too! We also launched our Sustainability Guidebook for SME's (link below). What a MEGA event and thank you to all involved. 🌳 💚
2. Remembering: It was a pleasure to join Haslam Preeston at the Victory Ball put on by the Sandbag group in Singapore. What a brilliant evening at the Fullerton Hotel commemorating 80 years since the end of WW2. Met so many across the network, and it was truly an event that united veterans, military supporters, and esteemed guests in a night of tribute, camaraderie, reflection and entertainment. Bravo to all involved, and superb to see many familiar faces including Peter Ryan and Darren Brunton 🇬🇧 🙏
3. Engaging the legal firms: I was delighted to host Sally Langrish, the Director General, Legal (Legal Adviser) for the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, where we engaged our law firm members to talk about operating in Singapore and UK Gov’t areas of focus. ⚖️ 🏛️
4. Encouraging UK Interest: We were delighted to host Alderman The Rt Hon. the Lord Mayor Alastair King, 696th Lord Mayor of London together with Damian Nussbaum and Mark Hedley, Lucy Hughes, Amy Ross, Catriona Lindsey-Renton, Carmen Wee, Katherine Cox, Sow Kheng LING and Adrian Rymill . Such an engaging discussion, and lots of opportunity to invest in the UK and promote the best of UK business here in Singapore. Thank you to Ian Macdonald from Aberdeen for hosting us. 🇬🇧 📈
5. New Working Group: Thank you to all those who attended the re-launch of the Green Maritime Working Group and to Toby Stephens for expertly chairing the session. As we pick up the green maritime part of the UK-Singapore Green Economy Framework, we look forward to continuing to champion the best of the business community to drive innovation and sustainable shipping, and seeking out amazing UK green maritime innovation. 🚢🧩
I also had the pleasure of attending the grand opening of the The Perse School (Singapore) . A huge site and it was excellent to see how much progress has been made and get a real vibe of the personality of the school. Well done to the team for all you have a achieved.
Thanks also to Dr. Michael Yap for the chance to press pause.
Phew, after that week of all things green, I’m signing off. Have a good weekend when you get there…
