Meet Elaine Goh of BT: Finalist for Individual Contribution in our Annual Business Awards

What's made them Finalists

From giving back to the community to embedding strong employee engagement strategies within the organisation, Elaine has been breaking boundaries in male dominated industries - being a marshal at the Singapore Formula 1 race since 2008 and being recognised in the FIA Women in Motorsports handbook.

Leadership and Employee Engagement

Guided by the principles of "always try" and "sharing is caring," Elaine's mentorship of new contributors reflects her dedication to nurturing a culture of continuous learning and philanthropy. She encourages individuals to explore their boundaries and embrace innovative initiatives, driving positive change within her circle of influence.

In her professional capacity, Elaine has demonstrated exceptional leadership by overseeing a team of site champions across Southeast Asia. Through curating diverse employee engagement events, spanning from wellness programs to cross-functional learning opportunities, she has fostered camaraderie among colleagues within Singapore and the broader region. Her leadership has played a pivotal role in bridging gaps and creating a more connected and engaged workforce.

Community Engagement and Diversity and Inclusion

Beyond her corporate engagements, Elaine's personal volunteer experiences reflect her adaptability and diverse skill set. Whether distributing masks and tokens during the COVID-19 pandemic as a Team Nila volunteer or contributing to sports-related activities like the SEA Games and Singapore Tennis Open, her willingness to contribute to a wide range of community needs is evident.

Breaking boundaries

Elaine's role as a marshal at the Singapore Formula 1 race since 2008 speaks to her perseverance and determination to excel in unconventional roles. Her standout achievement as the only female crane operator in Asia within this domain is a testament to her willingness to break boundaries and embrace challenges head-on. On an international level, her recognition and feature in the FIA Women in Motorsports handbook underscore her remarkable accomplishments in a predominantly male-dominated sector, reflecting her unwavering commitment and exceptional achievements

Significant Contributions and Achievements

Notable achievements are evident in her work with Children’s Wishing Well (CWW). Her journey began with in-kind contributions and supporting FRESH, an initiative facilitating supermarket shopping trips for underprivileged children. These experiences equipped them with essential life skills learnt such as nutrition, budgeting and decision-making. As her involvement deepened, more substantial programmes like Career Day@BT and baking sessions at a 5-star hotel. Over the span of 2 years, more than SGD10k has been raised, enabling significant contributions to CWW. The FRESH initiative alone has empowered 70 children with practical life skills, setting them on a path towards independence and informed decision-making.

The inaugural Career Day in 2022, which hosted 20 children introduced them to potential career paths and igniting aspirations. This year, funds raised will provide partial sponsorship of sign language classes for 20 youths over a 10-week programme. The ongoing engagement strategy is bearing fruit as programme beneficiaries recognise and connect positively with the BT brand.
