Launch of Nxt.Registry: Ushers in a new era of transparent, science-backed nature markets
Source: Press Release
Today marks a significant advancement for redefining environmental market infrastructure with the launch of the Nxt.Registryâ„¢, a breakthrough digital platform that seeks to provide more transparent and secure tracking of nature asset units and labels.
Developed for Nxt.Nature, in partnership with Accounting for Nature and Trovio, the registry is designed to support a new generation of high-integrity, nature-linked market programs – starting with CarbonPlus™.
Built on CorTenX™, a blockchain-based API First infrastructure, the Nxt.Registry™ provides a core technology solution to enable the digital labelling, tracking and public disclosure of nature assets and labelled units measured and verified under the Accounting for Nature® Framework. These environmental asset measurements – such as the condition of native vegetation, fauna, or soils – are linked to market instruments, such as carbon credits, via the registry, ensuring that every nature-based claim is backed by evidence through a transparent, immutable, and accessible platform.
The registry’s first implementation supports the delivery of CarbonPlus™, a new program that enables attributes from Certified Environmental Accounts to be associated with Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs). This creates a prioritisation, nature-integrated labelled unit designed to meet growing demand for biodiversity and ecosystem co-benefits in carbon markets.
The Nxt.Registry™ is designed using open architecture with the ability to be interoperable with other registries. This design allows for the possibility of creating automated registry integrations for transparent tracking of certified environmental outcomes to registered carbon credits (ACCUS).Â
The registry has also been designed to support a suite of other nature-based programs – including NaturePlus® units, a unit of uplift that recognises standalone certified improvements in environmental condition. This continued development ensures that the registry will remain a flexible and scalable infrastructure for a wide range of environmental market applications.
While the Nxt.Registryâ„¢ tracks, verifies, and discloses nature asset labelled units; it is not a trading platform. Instead, it is designed to be interoperable and integrate with third-party market platforms, enabling seamless and transparent trading of verified nature-linked products.
This separation ensures the integrity and credibility of the underlying environmental data while enabling flexibility in how market participants engage in trade. To support future interoperability requirements, the registry will offer connectivity to carbon and biodiversity markets, as well as institutional trading platforms, via standards-aligned APIs and data protocols.
The Nxt.Registry is being pilot-tested and is now live and accessible at www.nxtnature.com. The release of the first nature-labelled units registered in the system is expected in mid-late 2025, as we work with our pilot program partners.
