50 years of independent Singapore and 100 years of International Women's Day

In collaboration with our Diversity Sponsor, Barclays, the British Chamber of Commerce organised a lunch series to celebrate International Womens' Day and SG50. More than 120 professionals, attended from 35 different organisations, to celebrate the growth in opportunities for women in Singapore over the last 50 years and to discuss what actions can be taken to accelerate the changes moving forward.

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating economic, political and social achievements of women: past, present and future. This year's International Women's Day revels in the theme of 'Make it Happen', encouraging effective action for advancing and recognising women.

Just over 100 years since the first International Women's Day, Singapore celebrates 50 years of independence.  The SG50 campaign celebrates pioneers, 'the conquerors of new frontiers', and asks across generations what their dreams were, what they were fighting for and what stories they have to tell.

In collaboration with our Diversity Sponsor - Barclays, we looked to understand how opportunities for and contributions by women in Singapore have grown and developed over the last 50 years as Singapore has grown and developed. We considered what it will take over the next 50 years to achieve the objectives of International Women's Day: to continue the important achievements of women and increase gender equality. We did this through the lenses of influential women who have witnessed this progression first-hand, and are positioned to influence further development in the next 50 years.
