Singapore, 24th May, 2016: The British Chamber of Commerce Singapore (BritCham) today announced that its Annual Business Awards was open for business. Businesses and individuals are being urged to nominate themselves or others – at no cost - for a chance to win one of the longest running business Awards in Singapore.

This year’s Awards are open to any business registered in Singapore, with organisations or individuals having the opportunity to enter one of nine categories that cover diversity, innovation and technology transformation amongst others. There will be one new category in this, the seventeenth year of the Awards. As an acknowledgement of the increasingly close commercial ties between the UK and Singapore, a new ‘Outstanding UK-Singapore Collaboration’ prize category has been included for the first time.

“The Annual Business Awards have established themselves as one of the longest running of their kind in Singapore,” said Bicky Bhangu, President of the British Chamber of Commerce, Singapore.

“There are of course long established historic and cultural ties between the UK and Singapore. Now, in addition to those links, we are seeing a number of developments in the business and commerce space, such as the signing of cooperation agreements in sectors as diverse as cyber-security and FinTech, which suggest that we are entering a new era of closer, mutually beneficial business ties. The Awards are a chance for us to celebrate those burgeoning ties and I urge any Singaporean business or businessperson to enter.”

Established in 1999, BritCham’s Annual Business Awards have offered many businesses and businesspeople a platform for growth. Past winners of the prestigious prize have included companies such as The Fry Group, local SME Collective Works, Rolls Royce and Brewerkz.

“The UK and Singapore are both successful trading nations. Bilateral relations between our two countries are underpinned by investment, trade and commerce,” said H.E. Scott Wightman, British High Commissioner to the Republic of Singapore.

“This is unquestionably the ‘Asian Century’ so I’m delighted that the UK is working closely with business and trade partners in Singapore to help support the country’s economic leadership role in South East Asia and help UK firms grow. Many businesses operating in Singapore are worthy of awards and I look forward to celebrating them with the wider business community.”

There are nine categories open to businesses. Organisations can self-nominate for any category of the following:

  • Outstanding UK-Singapore Collaboration
  • Embracing Diversity
  • Excellence in Innovation
  • Customer Engagement
  • Outstanding Young Professional
  • SME Excellence
  • Investing in People
  • Technology Transformation
  • Sustainability Initiatives

The Annual Business Awards have grown in significance and prestige over the past 16 years, said Elton Juan of aerospace overhaul and repair company IECO, a winner in 2015.

“We nominated ourselves for the awards to show case our achievements and to benchmark ourselves against other leading businesses in Singapore. We also take the opportunity to celebrate the successes of our employees giving them an opportunity to reflect on their achievements and to encourage them to reach even higher.”

The winners will be selected by a soon to be announced panel of judges. Information about the Awards, including how to enter can be found at:
