BritCham hosts Scottish Big Data Trade Mission in Singapore

The British Chamber of Commerce collaborated with Scottish Development International and The Data Lab to host a big data trade mission in Singapore.

This March, the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore (BritCham) collaborated with Scottish Development International (SDI) and The Data Lab to host a Big Data Trade Mission in Singapore. The trade mission was held from 1st to 4th March 2016 and provided 6 delegate companies with the opportunity to attend Big Data conferences and meet Big Data companies in Singapore to generate traction in the local market.

The event was managed by BritCham’s Business Services team, who organised a market briefing on the first day of the trade mission. The briefing included a welcome speech by Warren Pain, Senior Head of Inward Investment & Deputy Director UKTI Singapore, and presentations by renowned companies such as BT Singapore, DataSpark, the National Supercomputing Centre, and government agency IDA. After the briefing, a special tour of the Skyscanner office was arranged for the delegates.

In that week, the Chamber also organised an evening reception for the trade mission delegates at Eden Hall, the residence of the British High Commissioner to Singapore. The reception was attended by 75 delegates and guests and provided an opportunity for delegates to meet the business community in Singapore, along with members of the Chamber in the ICT, Financial Services, and Oil & Gas sectors.

The Business Services team was present to facilitate the networking reception and ensure that the event ran smoothly. Overall, the night was a huge success as the delegates and hosts had an immensely enjoyable time, commending the team on their efficiency and organisation of the event.

“The events you and the team from the British Chamber helped organise for us this week were extremely useful. The visiting organisations have built some fantastic contacts and networks which I have no doubt will lead to business benefit for them. The briefing on the Singapore landscape was also very useful in helping them understand the business opportunities and benefits of working in Singapore and Asia. You and the team managed to pull together a vibrant set of companies and organisations for us to meet with and the networking reception was particularly useful for everyone. Thank you again for all your support.”
