Since 1972, when the doors opened to its first cohort of 25 students, Dover Court International School has been providing outstanding learning experiences, within a community that champions inclusion and diversity.

As a mission-driven school that prioritises creating paths to success for all students, DCIS is using its 50th anniversary to highlight and support the incredible work of one of Singapore’s local charities – Curious Thoughts Giving (CTG).

Founded in 2018, CTG drives social mobility by providing free literacy programmes to underprivileged children. Through academic programming and resources, they aim to use education to provide direct impact on marginalised families.

“When he joined CTG at 8 years old, Ryan was illiterate and unable to attend Primary School due to immigration issues and the lack of financial means for external tutoring.

However, in just 2 years, he progressed from being unable to read simple words like 'black' to being able to complete comprehension exercises under the guidance of the CTG’s teacher who taught him to read using blending techniques.
It wasn't Ryan's inability that inhibited him. Rather, it was his lack of opportunity.”
says CTG’s spokesperson.

Throughout the 2022-2023 academic year, Dover Court International School has been supporting CTG through dedicated activities including fundraising, a drive for donations of school supplies and stationery, and hosting a four-week, parent-accompanied literacy programme. Held in the Dover Court library, this event series has brought families onto campus for targeted literacy education for young children, training for parents to equip them with the skills to support their children at home, and professional development sessions for parents. This integrated programme has included the participation of DCIS students and staff in a whole community effort, providing rewarding experience to secondary students and allowing the school to give back to the community that has hosted it for half a century.

“The dynamic and dedicated team at Curious Thoughts Giving does truly inspirational work in delivering innovative programmes to level the playing field for Singapore’s vulnerable families. We are delighted to use the occasion of our 50th anniversary to bring attention to the remarkable work they are doing, and leverage our network of parents and partners to raise funds to support their efforts. I’d like to personally invite members of the community to join us in ensuring these programs continue to flourish by attending or sponsoring a prize at our Golden Gala where all the proceeds raised will go towards CTG.” says Richard Dyer, Principal of Dover Court International School

The 50th Anniversary celebrations will culminate in a Golden Charity Gala on 25th March 2023 at the Conrad Singapore Orchard Hotel (formerly known as The Regent Hotel). All the proceeds from the event, along with the funds raised throughout the year, will go towards supporting Curious Thoughts Giving academic resources and literacy programming.
The celebration includes a five-star evening of entertainment, three-course dinner arranged by award-winning chefs, Lucky Draw, live music and entertainment.

Limited corporate tables are still available for businesses that would like to support a worthy organisation while connecting with the DCIS parent and partner community.
