COVID19 – Employee Engagement Survey for Startups & SMEs

In the coming days, members in our community may be contacted by fellow member Ren Advisory with an invitation to participate in the activity outlined below. The Chamber supports this initiative to understand the detailed impacts of COVID-19 to the employees of small and medium-sized businesses.



The Idea

Many of the recent surveys that Kris Sasitharan of Ren Advisory ((kris@renadvisoryasia.com) had participated in focused on the impact of COVID-19 and ensuing “lockdowns” on businesses – and rightly so. However, as a small business owner, he had not been asked to participate in any surveys that aim to measure the impact of lockdown on employees.  

In light of the circuit-breaker being lifted in Singapore and many other countries also beginning to “re-open”, Ren Advisory is running an employee pulse survey for SMEs (companies employing between c.20 - 300 employees). In Singapore at least, employees are likely to start returning to office-based work from late June. The survey will also be extended to employees based outside Singapore.

  • Insights will be extremely helpful when thinking about workforce strategies for the future.
  • Excellent employee communication exercise, demonstrating that your organisation values employee well-being (Ren Advisory will draft the communication email for you to send out)
  • Responses not linked to employee’s identity, thus fully ensuring employee confidentiality.
  • Given the survey is conducted by an independent third party, employees are far more likely to be candid with responses, which will make the insights more meaningful.

How Will This Work? 

This exercise will run as two short, sharp pulse surveys of around 25 questions each. The SurveyMonkey platform, which has high levels of data security, will be used. Each survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete.

WHAT

WHEN

Survey 1 – to focus on the BEFORE (i.e. During Circuit Breaker/Lockdown):

  • How employees have coped with the WFH period
  • How their line managers have managed them
  • Impact of kids and virtual schooling
  • Impact due to lack of in-person interaction with colleagues
  • Impact on productivity, etc.

Before the end of June

Survey 2 – to focus on the AFTER (once c. 50% are back in the office):

  • How employees have coped with returning to an office environment
  • What employers have done to help them reorient
  • Relationship with colleagues
  • Impact on productivity
  • Impact on family life, etc.

Late August / early September
