International Women's Day with BritCham: Let's #PledgeforParity

#PressforProgress is the theme of International Women's Day 2018. BritCham’s Women in Business group is going even further with #PledgeforParity: Bridging the Pay, Performance and Potential Gap. We are proud to present a lineup of global, influential voices leading the change in their respective industries.

According to the recent World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report, gender parity is still over 200 years away. But this timeframe can and should be shortened. While gender parity won't happen overnight, men and women all over the world are engendering change every day. Never before has the world seen such a strong global outpouring of advocacy, activism and support.

Hosted once again by the unrivalled Hayden Majajas, Bloomberg’s Head of Diversity and Inclusion APAC, we heard from Kathryn Hanes, Director of External Relations, APAC, McKinsey & Company; Prof Zoe Kinias, Associate Professor of Organisational Behaviour at INSEAD and Academic Director of the INSEAD Gender Initiative; Dr Astrid Tuminez, Regional Director, Corporate, External & Legal Affairs of Microsoft South-East Asia; and Karen Fawcett, Co-Founder of Katfish Holdings and Ex-Chief Executive Officer, Retail Banking Group Head, Brand & Marketing at Standard Chartered Bank.

Participants were involved in a powerful and engaging conversation around gender initiatives with the highest payoffs, how successful organisations have bridged the gap, and ideas on how each of us can make a difference.

During the course of the event we used live polling and questions tools from our partner Howdy to bring the audience of almost 250 people into the conversation. Three questions were asked, with the following results:

        1. Do you have a female role model in a leadership position who you look up to or go to for advice?

Of 143 respondents, 60% answered Yes, and 40$ answered No

        2. In the last month, have you been proactively managing your career and benchmarking your                          progress via external sources such as headhunters?

Of 152 respondents, 68% answered No, and 32% answered Yes

        3. Do you think female leaders prioritise running and protecting their own agenda over assisting                      women's progress?

Of 153 respondents, 54% answered No, and 46% answered Yes
