Women in Leadership: Getting yourself "unstuck"

From the various initiatives that have been explored by the British Chamber’s Women in Business Committee, it has become clear that in addition to the "glass ceiling", women often struggle to develop confidence in their abilities and promote their own career progression. At the Chamber event held for International Women's Day earlier in the year, the panel discussed this and how women need to drive their own development so as to avoid getting stuck on the "sticky floor".

As a way to give current and aspiring leaders the opportunity to understand how this concept applies to their own success, and identify where they need to focus their development, the Women in Business Committee has partnered with Wentworth People to offer a career development programme which is structured in 5 modules.

The workshops will run fortnightly from 17:30 to 20:00, with 2.5 hours for each session, and the content as follows:

Wed 9th September

Breaking through
self-limiting beliefs

  • Identity and values (who are you?)
  • Being more than your limiting beliefs
  • Identifying and understanding your values and what is most important to you

Wed 23rd September

Personal branding to meet your ambitions (where do you want
to be)

  • Creating and living your personal brand and identity
  • How others see you vs. how you wish to be perceived
  • Reputation

Wed 7th October

The perfect pitch: introducing yourself powerfully and interestingly

  • Create, develop and practice so you can stand out from the crowd and make a statement
  • Take bolder action and express your own voice

Wed 21st October

Importance of the right mind-set to network successfully

  • Motivations and drivers to networking
  • Understanding social influence

Wed 4th November

Realising your ambitions

  • Being politically astute
  • Stakeholder mapping – who influences who

At the end of the programme, you will be able to:

  • Uncover the beliefs that may be limiting the growth of your career / business.
  • Create your personal brand/identity and understand how this supports you in standing out from the crowd.
  • Create a clear vision and identify action items in relation to your professional success.
  • Build a network of like-minded professionals.

In order to make the programme as accessible as possible, the Women and Business Committee and Wentworth People will be sponsoring it. As such, the programme is offered at a cost of $150 per participant (discounted from $1,500).

In turn, we ask that participants commit to the following:

  1. Arriving on time (we only have 2.5 hours per session)
  2. Attending every session with an open mind, enthusiasm and energy. Please ensure you can make every session before you apply. The sponsorship for your full fees of $1500 is covered on the basis of 100% attendance.
  3. ‘Paying it forward’ by sharing your learning and helping another female aspiring leader in your company with their personal development and growth. Not only will you be helping someone else, you will also be embedding your own learning through hands-on practice and teaching.
  4. Cementing your own learning between sessions by practising and implementing the tools and techniques between sessions.
  5. Supporting and participating in group sessions within the programme, and actively building on networks created upon completion of the programme. This means bringing an individual agenda to the programme, as well as providing support to others that participate.

To enrol in the programme, register via the link above. ***If you are experiencing difficulty registering, please email Alexandra@britcham.org.sg for assistance. As space is limited for the event, interested participants are required to fill in a form before their attendance is confirmed by Aug 21.

Dear BritCham, I would like to register to the Women in Leadership even. However I will not be able to attend one of the sessions (23 Oct) due to a planned business trip. Am I still be able to register and attend the remaining 4 sessions? Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks and regards, Zhilin Yuan
