Newly appointed British High Commissioner meets Chamber Board

On 11th June, British High Commissioner Scott Wightman met the Chamber Board to better understand Chamber activities and to further deepen the strong partnership between the Foreign Commonwealth Office, UKTI and the Chamber. Scott addressed topics such as the UK economy, UK government's plans following the recent General Elections and his plans in continuing the support for British Businesses in Singapore. 

Mr Scott Wightman CMG who has been appointed British High Commissioner to the Republic of Singapore in succession to Mr Antony Phillipson, met with our Board members on 11 June 2015 at our monthly Board Meeting.
 
Mr Wightman addressed topics such as the UK economy, UK government's plans following the recent General Elections and his plans in continuing support to British Businesses in Singapore. 
 
Mr Wightman joined the FCO in 1983. He has worked in the British Embassies in Beijing, Paris and Rome, where he was Deputy Head of Mission from 2002 to 2006. He was Director for Global and Economic Issues in the FCO from 2006-2008, then Director for Asia Pacific from 2008 to 2010. His most recent appointment was as HM Ambassador to the Republic of Korea until January 2015.
 
On his appointment as British High Commissioner to the Republic of Singapore, Mr Wightman said:
 
I am honoured to have been appointed the next British High Commissioner to Singapore. In this 50th anniversary year of Singapore’s independence I look forward to building on President Tan’s successful State Visit to the UK last year and to helping develop further the close economic, political and cultural relationship between our two countries.
