Throughout the summer of 2016, BritCham ran a competition for Singapore residents to post photos of what diversity means to them, specifially relating to one of the 5 pillars of diversity - Disability, Gender, Generation, LGBT and Culture. Diversity and inclusion is an important topic which features strongly in the BritCham agenda with both a busy diversity committee and a women in business committee leading the way with engaging events and content.

We received almost 90 entries to the competition, many of which were students of Tanglin Trust School who had enthusiastically embraced the concept of the competition as a project.

From the 12 finalists of the competition short-listed by our diversity committee, our judge, world-renowned travel photographer Trey Ratcliff from stuckincustoms.com, selected the top 3 images and along with the People's Choice from the Facebook page these 4 winners were celebrated in an exclusive event with the Deputy British High Commissioner, Alexandra McKenzie, and may honoured guests, at Eden Hall, where family members of the students collected a framed winners' certificate and prize.

To continue the theme throughout the year, our Diversity sponsor Barclays helped to produce a 2017 Desktop Calendar of the finalists which was available on the evening to all attendees. To receive a copy of the calendar or to learn more about the Celebrating Diversity initiative please email lucy@britcham.org.sg.

THE WINNERS

1ST PRIZE - 'GENDER AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY IN SINGAPORE' - THOMAS READ

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:

Smart how the shape of Singapore is represented as an island alone in the water, held together by the people that inhabit it. I also like how something seems to be written on the island, but it’s not clear what it might be. Lots of room for wondering, which is good.

2ND PRIZE - 'ELEGANT & STRONG REGARDLESS OF GENDER' - SIDDHI CHARAN & AMELIA GREEN

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:

It’s a great message to females of all ages that they can be both graceful and full of power. That combination puts most men to shame.

3RD PRIZE - 'STRONGER TOGETHER' - GAURI KUMAR

JUDGE'S COMMENTS:

A simple treatise that any colours can come together.

MOST POPULAR PHOTO - 'THE OLD MEETS THE NEW' - YASMIN IZADI

THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR SPONSORS AND SUPPORTERS IN THIS INITIATIVE
