BritCham hosts UKTI South East Trade Mission 2016 in Singapore

In coordination with the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore (BritCham), UKTI South East kick-started their annual trade mission in Singapore. The trade mission was held from 22nd to 26th February 2016 and provided 28 delegates with the opportunity to visit ASEAN countries such as Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

BritCham’s Business Services team had the pleasure of hosting the trade mission on Monday, 22nd February 2016. The trade mission commenced with a market briefing for the delegates about Singapore and her neighbouring ASEAN countries. The briefing started off with speeches by special guests H.E. Scott Wightman, British High Commissioner to Singapore, and Ambassador Asif Ahmad, British Ambassador to the Philippines, welcoming the delegates to Singapore and urging them to do business in ASEAN. The Chamber also managed to coordinate speakers from British Chambers of Commerce in Cambodia, Thailand, Philippines, the British High Commission Singapore, UKTI Philippines and Taylor Vinters to present the business opportunities for British companies in the region. After the briefing, a separate break-out session was arranged for the aerospace delegates, during which the Economic Development Board (EDB) presented delegates with an overview of Singapore’s aerospace sector and its opportunities.

Additionally, the Chamber organized a delegate visit to the Rolls-Royce Seletar Aerospace campus, enabling delegates to tour the assembly facility and gain insight on the manufacturing and mechanisms of flight operations. The site visit proved to be a success, as the twelve participants had an enjoyable and informative visit!

The evening concluded with a reception at Eden Hall, hosted by H.E. Scott Wightman. The reception was attended by 80 delegates and guests and provided an opportunity for delegates to meet the business community in Singapore along with members of the Chamber in their relevant sectors. Guests were also treated to a sumptuous curry buffet spread!

All members of the Business Services team were present to facilitate the networking reception as well as to follow up with delegates that were receiving assistance from the Chamber under the Overseas Business Network Initiative (OBNI). This was done by enquiring on the progress and outcomes of meetings scheduled for the delegates, and providing advice when needed.

All in all, the night was a huge success and the team received excellent feedback from the delegates and guests on the wonderful time spent.
