Corporate Social Responsibility

British Chamber of Commerce - CSR Committee

The British Chamber of Commerce Singapore CSR Committee seeks to educate, draw attention to and showcase Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) issues and practices in Asia. We have an ambitious vision for UK businesses to consider the economic, social and environmental impacts of their activities, wherever they operate in the world.

What is CSR?

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) encourages organisations to take responsibility for the impacts of their actions and operations. This responsibility goes beyond simply legal and statutory obligations and extends to a voluntary effort to improve the quality of life for employees, the local community, and society. Additionally, this responsibility often extends to the environment and other protectable interests.

Why is it important?

CSR is important because it ensures that companies take a proactive role towards ensuring that their business policies and practices do not harm others' interests. Organisations which actively practice CSR bring greater benefit to the communities in which they operate.

There is a strong business case for CSR, in that corporations benefit in multiple ways by operating with a perspective broader and longer than their own immediate, short-term profits.
