Sir Andrew Cahn is CEO of UK Trade & Investment, the Government organisation that helps UK and UK based companies develop their business in international markets and helps foreign companies bring investment to the UK. Andrew is closely involved with setting and delivering UK Government economic policy, most recently contributing to The Business, Innovation and Skills Committee's report "Exporting out of Recession", which examines what should be done by Government to sustain and increase Britains export strengths, and participating in Prime Minister Gordon Brown's Global Investment Conference of the world's business leaders. Andrew is currently engaged with drawing up UKTI's next 5 year strategy
In his address to BritCham, Sir Andrew will talk about the following key areas: 1. UK Economy - Status and development 2. UKTI's role at the heart of Government economic policy 3. Asia's position in UKTI's forward strategy
About the speaker: Sir Andrew Cahn has worked on economic and commercial issues for most of his career. He has twice worked in the FCO at the UK's Permanent Representation to the European Union and was Deputy Head of the European Secretariat in the Cabinet Office in the mid-nineties.
Andrew has also worked for the European Commission. From 1984 - 1988 he was part of the team responsible for planning and delivering the 1992 Single Market Programme in the cabinet of Lord Cockfield. He returned to the Commission in 1997 as Chef de Cabinet (Chief of Staff) for Neil Kinnock, Vice President of the Commission and European Commissioner for Transport. He left public service for the private sector when he joined British Airways in 2000 as their Director of Government and Industry Affairs. |
