Singapore Government

and Regulatory Agencies

The Ministry Of Trade and Industry directs the formulation and implementation of policies related to the trade and industry of Singapore. The ministry oversees a department and 10 statutory boards. These are the Singapore Department of Statistics, Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Competition Commission of Singapore (CCS), Economic Development Board (EDB), Energy Market Authority (EMA), Hotel Licensing Board (HLB), International Enterprise Singapore (IE Singapore), JTC Corporation (JTC), Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC), Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and SPRING Singapore (Standards, Productivity and Innovation Board).
The mission of the Ministry of Manpower is to support the supply of manpower to sustain Singapore's long-term economic competitiveness, through enlarging our talent pool, managing the entry, stay and exit of foreign guest workers, and promoting progressive and motivational people-management practices.
Through the Ministry Of Health, the Government manages the public healthcare system to ensure that good and affordable basic medical services are available to all Singaporeans.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) is the central bank of Singapore. Our mission is to promote sustained non-inflationary economic growth, and a sound and progressive financial centre. The MAS now administers the various statutes pertaining to money, banking, insurance, securities and the financial sector in general. Following its merger with the Board of Commissioners of Currency on 1 October 2002, the MAS has also assumed the function of currency issuance.
The Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) is the lead government agency responsible for planning and executing strategies to enhance Singapore’s position as a global business centre and grow the Singapore economy. We dream, design and deliver solutions that create value for investors and companies in Singapore. In so doing, we generate economic opportunities and jobs for the people of Singapore; and help shape Singapore's economic future.
SPRING Singapore is the enterprise development agency responsible for helping Singapore enterprises grow. We work with partners to help enterprises in financing, capability and management development, technology and innovation, and accessing new markets. As the national standards and accreditation body, SPRING develops and promotes an internationally-recognised standards and quality assurance infrastructure that builds trust in Singapore enterprises, products and services, thereby enabling their global competitiveness and facilitating global trade.
International Enterprise (IE) Singapore is an agency under the Ministry of Trade and Industry spearheading the development of Singapore’s external economy. With a global network in over 30 locations and our 3C framework of assistance – Connections, Competency, Capital, we offer products and services to help enterprises export, develop business capabilities, find overseas partners and enter new markets.
The Central Provident Fund (CPF) is a social security savings scheme jointly supported by employees, employers and the Government. CPF members are employees and self-employed persons in Singapore.
The Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) is the national regulator of business entities and public accountants in Singapore. ACRA also plays the role of a facilitator for the development of business entities and the public accountancy profession.
The Singapore Department of Statistics is the central statistical authority responsible for official statistics on the Singapore economy and population.
Established in 2001, the Health Promotion Board (HPB) has a vision to build a nation of healthy and happy people. HPB assumes the role of the main driver for national health promotion and disease prevention programmes. Our goal is to increase the quality and years of healthy life and prevent illness, disability and premature death.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was established on 2 February 1996, with the mission to develop Singapore as a premier global hub port and international maritime centre (IMC), and to advance and safeguard Singapore's strategic maritime interests. MPA is the driving force behind Singapore's port and maritime development, taking on the roles of Port Authority, Port Regulator, Port Planner, IMC Champion, and National Maritime Representative.
Singapore Customs is the lead agency on trade facilitation and revenue enforcement matters. It is responsible for the implementation of customs and trade enforcement measures including those related to free trade agreements and strategic goods. As the guardian of Singapore’s trade, our mission is to uphold our laws to build trust, facilitate trade and protect revenue.
