The Leadership Dilemma 

“Are existing leadership models fit for purpose in this fourth industrial revolution age?”
 
How have leaders lost the trust perspective?
Is diversity/multi culturalism really the way forward?
What would a leadership model look like to be fit for purpose in a knowledge age?
Effective communication is still a challenge – why?
 
Members and guests joined us in an in-depth debate to tackle current leadership issues.
 
There is a mountain of research that challenges current “leadership” competencies, which this debate session discussed. It also tackled some key points and “elephants in the room” head on. It aimed to encourage participants to think about what they might want to change in their leadership approach or change the way they will approach an upcoming leadership role.
 
This event included free-flow wine, beer, soft drinks and light canapes with time during registration and post event for networking with other members and guests. 
 

 

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

 
 
Jeremy Blain is an award-winning a Business Leader, Futurist, New Era Learning Professional, Author & Conference Speaker. Jeremy is a Managing Partner at Cegos Group, one of the world’s leading professional skills training organisations, with his key role being Regional Managing Director for Cegos Asia Pacific.
 
Jeremy has a wealth of International experience having worked in most major and developing markets in world. A commercially minded, award-winning L&D entrepreneur Jeremy has 16 years’ experience in the industry as a managing director, partner, trainer, coach, author and program creator. In previous roles at Procter and Gamble, PepsiCo and as Managing Partner of his own point-of-sale software business, Jeremy’s roles have included marketing, sales, operations and general management.
 
As one of Cegos’ senior executives, Jeremy is a frequent international conference speaker and media commentator on topics related to the global L&D market. Themes include: the leadership and management challenges for global organisations as they head to the next workplace shift in the 2020s, the integration of emerging and informal learning technologies; the importance of performance measurement and proving ROI; developing ‘core’ commercial skills to achieve competitive business advantage; and more.

Michelle Simmons is the general manager of Southeast Asia New Markets at Microsoft Asia Pacific. In this role, she leads Microsoft’s business across nine countries that make up some of Asia Pacific’s fastest growing markets.
 
Before her current role, Simmons was the senior director of Marketing & Operations for Microsoft Korea. In this capacity, she was responsible for business operations, marketing, customer satisfaction, and driving overall business priorities for the Korean market.
 
Simmons began her career with Microsoft in the United States in 2001, where she held leadership positions in sales, partner strategy, and marketing across the Enterprise as well as Small and Midmarket and Partner Solutions organizations. She relocated to Singapore in 2011 to lead the Enterprise Partner business in Asia Pacific, where she oversaw enterprise partner strategy across the region’s diverse subsidiaries, working closely with partner teams to align business priorities with Microsoft partners to drive growth. Before joining Microsoft, Simmons held several sales and sales management positions at ASAP Software and Frontier Communications.
 
 
Lauren is a seasoned Advisor and business leader who, in the last 15 years, has worked extensively with mid-sized and Fortune 500 companies across Asia Pacific, the US and Europe, and across the private and government sectors. 
 
She has developed and led cross regional, diverse global teams and, as an advisor, focuses on enterprise wide initiatives aimed at supporting global and regional transformation. Lauren also coaches Executives and business leaders to effectively navigate through the ambiguity of regional matrices and the increasing complexity of global business change
 
 
Sean has over 30 years of in-depth experience in the Hotel / Hospitality and F&B industries. His international work exposure includes the United Kingdom, United States of America, Africa, Thailand, Brunei and currently Singapore, where he has been based for more than 22 years. Sean also played key roles in the renovation and re-positioning of more than 7 hotels and establishments around the world including Royal Plaza on Scotts Singapore, Fullerton Bay Hotel, Empire Hotel & Country Club and Marina Bay Sands Singapore (pre-opening team) and introduced new award-winning F&B concepts like Carousel at Royal Plaza on Scotts. With extensive experience in Pre Openings, Renovation and Turn Around Situations, Sean has garnered awards including General Manager of the Year 2014 awarded by National Critics Choice, Leadership in Customer Focus awarded by the British Chamber of Commerce Singapore in 2014 and most recently Best Private Club 2017 awarded by APAC Insider for The British Club. Early this year, Sean was awarded the prestigious British Empire Medal (BEM) awarded by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in recognition for his numerous years of service to promote British businesses and support charities in Asia. Sean also served as President of the SKAL International Singapore from March 2012 – 2015.
 

ABOUT THE MODERATOR

 
 
Ray is a People and Productivity Architect. He creates, designs and facilitates ‘C’ level /senior management Leadership retreats , off-site meetings and conferences. He has worked in over 20 industries. Ray holds an MBA from Edinburgh Business School and is a former English Football League and Premier League Referee.
