Start-up Series: Transforming your Networking Conversations

As new businesses kick off, filled with dreams of success and glory, the harsh realization of the day to day churn it takes to run a modern business can sometimes be overwhelming. Legal, financial, operational, resource management and marketing all need to be addressed carefully, and often business owners do not have the key skill sets to get these things right. The goal of this series is to guide SME’s to all the available resources, both public and private, which can assist companies to fulfil their visions as sustainable going concerns. Whether entrepreneurs are building their business, looking for a job or just interested in meeting people, they will be going to networking events, conferences and other forums. Growing strong connections with the people they meet is the key to success and is an important step to building trust for future collaboration. Doing this effectively can be more difficult that it first seems.
 
In this high practical and interactive session, we looked at the dynamics of first meetings and provided tools to help participants prepare, engage and connect with potential partners and stakeholders. The session included several rounds of focused practice, including two way feedback on how participants come across, with suggestions to improve their approaches for the next round. 
 
The session shared Networking Best Practices in small groups from learning during the session, as well as inviting participants to identify actions to build on their networking skills.
 

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

 
 
Elizabeth is an experienced Learning & Development and HR professional, who has worked in a broad spectrum of industry sectors, in multicultural environments including Financial Services, Banking, Retail, Airlines and various other MNCs, SMEs and Public Sector institutions. 
 
As a freelance Training Consultant in Singapore, Elizabeth has developed her expertise in performance and talent management, leadership development, soft skills training and generalist Human Resources. 
 
Before coming to Singapore 14 years ago, Elizabeth was the HR and Learning & Development Director for the retailer WH Smith and held a similar position at United Friendly Insurance in London.
