Breakfast Club

Demystifying the Board

Have you ever considered the value that you could add to a company board?

What does an effective board member do?

How can board membership increase your knowledge, network and skills?

A board is a group of people assigned to govern an organisation, company or other entity. It is also a legal requirement for many organisations, whether for-profit or not-for-profit. Over the past few years several studies have shown that diversity in the boardroom increases profits and decreases the chances of corporate scandals, thanks to the depth and breadth of insight, perspective and experience that a diverse board can offer to leaders.

However, many of us are unaware of the benefits of joining a board, or how to go about it. The British Chamber of Commerce’s Women in Business group brought together both technical and practical insights designed to demystify the concept of a ‘board’. This highly interactive session provided a detailed understanding of what it means to sit on a company board, such as the roles and responsibilities, as well as the risks involved.
