#FridayFive from the Executive Director: 12 April 2024

By David Kelly, Executive Director, British Chamber of Commerce Singapore

Happy Friday, and Selamat Hari Raya to those who were celebrating this week. Here are my highlights from this week from across the British Chamber.

  1. BA in HK – I was pleased to join British Airways (thank you to Rajesh Nair Noella Ferns Ruby Ho Grace Tsang and Rosa Lam) at the Hong Kong 7’s where I met up with the super team and to think more broadly about how we can support UK trade missions coming into Asia. It was also great to catch up with the brilliantly inspiring pair of Colin Giles, CEO of the British Chamber of Commerce in Taipei (BCCTaipei), and Lee Murphy of WNJ Ventures as we continue to build and support connectivity across the region.
  2. Britain in South East Asia | BiSEA – as part of our regional support for UK business, the BiSEA Chambers met virtually with Martin Kent, His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Asia Pacific, this week to talk about future plans and the UK APAC roadshow that we are attending during the last two weeks of June. A huge thank you to Martin for his time and engagement with the Chamber network.
  3. Welcome to Ysabel Y.– we are super pleased to welcome Ysabel to the Chamber this week. Ysabel is working with our events team and we look forward to further supporting our members with continuing events, excellent content and networking opportunities. Please join me in welcoming Ysabel to the Chamber team.
  4. Education and Innovation – we have spent some time this week exploring the opportunities to promote UK education and innovation. The Chamber is working on a plan to see how we can better promote UK innovation and University education in Singapore – watch this space!
  5. Digital Trade and eSports – We are continuing to work on the Trade Digitalisation Pilot programme with the UK Government and LogChain. We have been with Singapore Aero Engine Services Private Limited (SAESL) (sneak peek in the photo below) as part of this programme and are also hosting an event on Friday 19th April (The Future of Trade: Insights from the UK-Southeast Asia Trade Digitalisation Pilots Initiative). Thank you also to Unmish PARTHASARATHI for inviting us to join his event on eSports – the Chamber is also looking to support British SportsTech companies looking to expand into South East Asia.

That’s it for this week – with Singapore Maritime Week coming up on Monday, I’m looking forward to another busy week and hope to see you at various events happening across Singapore.
